A River Through

unique print, relief and silk screen 2020

As I sit by the river watching fish break the water surface to snatch insects, I feel a sense of nostalgia for the carefree times of a long gone childhood.  As a band of neighbourhood children we raced freely through vacant land playing jungle wars, putting pennies on the train line, catching lizards and seeking hiding places to sit and eat the ‘belly button’ fruit of the Common Mallow plant.  A time of liberty within the bounds of our parent’s strict instructions, ‘be back by tea-time’.  Children of these times have not the freedom of those years.

Times have changed and life is far more insular.  As I ponder I ask of what Country the children of 100 years may walk in.  Will they experience the wonders of nature or confront the fast diminishing flora and fauna?

Palimpsest of Journey

15 silkscreened pianola rolls using found materials, paints, natural pigments, inks 2020

“Having spent many years working with Indigenous communities throughout remote areas of SA, my interest lies with the land. Consequently my work can be seen as a dialogue with its surface patterns, acknowledging and respecting 'what lies beneath' unseen and unknown.

My practice includes experimental printmaking, digital imaging, sculpture and installation and pursuing the combination of found natural and artificial materials in order to express unification in our lives.”
