Mill Road Pocket Forest for the Lobethal Community

Following from the Solastalgia exhibition at Fabrik Arts and Heritage in Lobethal, we are thrilled to hear that artist Evette Sunset and the Lobethal Community Association at have received $3000 in funding from Open Gardens SA for their Mill Road Corner Community Pocket Forest Project. The grant will be used to purchase plants for a restorative planting on the Mill Road/Adelaide Road Corner that was burnt out by the bushfires in December.

Project aims:

  • Community education about fire retardant plantings (ornamentals and natives).

  • Community building through involving locals in planting and caring for the garden.

  • Creation of an entrance statement (beautification and place making) at the Lenswood entrance to Lobethal.

  • Community healing through clean up of a natural space which was burnt during the fires.

  • A visual link to Fabrik Arts and Heritage and the history of the woolen mill (incorporating the State heritage listed Mill chimney).
